Watch: The Grinch Stars In Summit PD's Anti-Theft Video

Thefts of packages from front porches and unlocked vehicles is a year-round problem, but one that's especially bad right during the holiday season, when many are driving around with presents or getting them delivered to their homes.

In a holiday video starring The Grinch, the Summit Police Department shares information on holiday package delivery and household safety tips.

Many police departments have created lighthearted memes and other social media to remind residents about taking basic precautions against theft.

The Summit Police Department, however, has perhaps taken things to the next level.

The city Monday released a video on YouTube starring everyone's favorite green villain, The Grinch, the Dr. Seuss character popularized in a beloved 1966 cartoon special, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, which was later made into a feature film.

In the video, the Grinch appears in locales around town swiping packages and even a car as he is pursued by a dogged Summit officer (spoiler alert: that police officer eventually gets his man -- er, Grinch).

Lighthearted though it may be, the video addresses a substantial problem. Nationwide, a staggering 11 million packages are stolen annually, according to figures cited by Summit.
